Brrrrrrrrrr

Baby, it’s cold outside. Brrrrrrrr. Shiver. My friend called me earlier this afternoon, trying to psych herself up to brave the elements. The conversation went something like this:

“Have you been out yet?”

“No, but I’m looking out the window. The sky’s beautiful. Does that count?”

“God, it’s cold.”

“No kidding. I’m not sure if I want to go out. Are you going out?”

“I really should before it gets dark. It will be depressing if I don’t.”

“Yeah, but it’s cold as fuck out there. I’m nice and warm in here. Still, it’s such a nice day.”

“Where did all this wind come from?”

“Brrrrrrrr.”

What she did, I do not know, but I did indeed go outside. Or, more specifically, I walked outside and got promptly into my car and took a drive around the salt marshes in Ipswich. Here are some pictures.

After my little jaunt, I stopped into the specialty grocery shop in downtown Ipswich for some good-quality balsamic vinegar and mustard. The shopkeeper and I both commented on how frigid it was. The last time I’d been in the shop, it was seventy-five degrees, and he had the door wide open. That was two weeks ago. We just aren’t ready for this, we said.

I’m trying to psych myself to go out again, this time to a movie. I just might make a nice dinner and have a salad with balsamic vinaigrette instead.

  1. We had a cold snap here in So Cal, too. Our oranges froze, dammit, and my heart damn near stopped when I got my bill from the gas company.

  2. It’s finally cold here, too. Yesterday wasn’t too bad, but today has the potential to be bitter. I actually have to button my coat.

  3. Fat Sparrow, I heard about the cold snap. We’re mourning the citrus crop here, too. Are your gas rates really high out there, or are you just not used to paying heating bills?

Robyn, it’s just icky. It’s cold, cold, cold out. Brrrr.

  4. That’s not Ipswich!
I pass through Ipswich twice a day on the train and it’s a shithole (if there’s anyone from Ipswich reading this, do yourself a favour and move out).

It’s clear and cold here, too, Sassy. We’re just sitting here waiting for the white stuff.

    Roll on spring …

  5. It is too so. Same way as I live in Essex, and I live near Manchester and Gloucester (without the “shire” and with a lot more Italians). Ipswich, Mass., is a beautiful place. We improved on the original. So there.

  6. That’s just too confusing.
Looking at maps of the States can get a bit silly like that.

The thing that really annoys me though, is in movies, when they show a picture of St Mark’s from the Grand Canal and caption it “Venice, Italy”.
    AAAARRRGGHH!
Who the fuck is going to confuse the most beutiful city in the world with Venice Beach? Or any other Venice in America?
    “London, England”
    “Paris, France.”
    Fucking Paris, Texas?
Ooh. I need a cup of tea and a sit down.

And yes, you have DEFINITELY improved on the original Ipswich!

  7. “It is too so.” Very funny…like girls fighting on the play ground. “Is so. Is not. Is so.”

  8. Sassy! HI!!!!!!! LOVE your shots! And sorry it’s sooooooooo cold..no FUN! I’m shivering and it’s no WAY as cold as it is back there where you are…I’ll stop shivering now! Here’s to warmer, no HOTTER days ahead! ;)

  9. Robyn, I nearly said “yuh huh,” but I figured Dive might not understand the Americanism.

Welcome, Ame! Today seems to be much warmer (meaning that it’s around 30), so we aren’t nearly as freezing today.

  10. I have a theory that once it gets to be 28 or colder, the numbers don’t really count. It’s just effing cold.

Dive, it’s not our fault that you Englanders came to the New World and started naming everything the same as it was back home. We have an Orange, MA, as well.

  11. My Ma’s kinda people-coloured, BG.

  12. I like your photos very much Sass. you know I’ve never been to Ipswich. I know it’s an artsy kinda place and would like to visit some day.

  13. Before Girl, you are right. It was just effing cold.

Dive, I won’t comment on yer Ma.

Rich, coming from you, I will take that as a real compliment. Thank you. Ipswich is lovely. You should check it out sometime.
